Dr. Randi Zlotnik Shaul is a bioethicist at The Hospital for Sick Children. In that role she provides ethics consultation services and policy support to individuals and committees within the hospital, teaches health care professionals and bioethics students, and conducts bioethics research. Randi is an assistant professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto, has an appointment in the Department of Surgery and is a member of the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics.
Randi has a degree in political science from McGill University, a law degree from Osgoode Hall, and both a Master of Laws degree and a Ph.D. in bioethics from the University of Toronto. Before graduate school Randi practiced law at the Ontario Ministry of Health. She has published in the areas of health law, priority setting, accountability and research ethics. Randi has presented at conferences both nationally and internationally. She has been an active member of The Hospital for Sick Children's Research Ethics Board for almost 10 years.
Randi’s current research interests include the interface of law and ethics in clinical and research based accountability and the introduction of innovative therapies in health care institutions. She is currently a PI on a CIHR funded grant looking at issues of dual accountability for clinician-researchers.
