Elizabeth Peter is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science degree at the University of Windsor and went on to complete a Masters degree in Nursing at the University of Toronto. She also earned a degree in Philosophy from York University, and finally a PhD through the Institute of Medical Sciences and the Collaborative Program in Bioethics at the University of Toronto. During her studies, she worked for many years at the Queen Street Mental Health Centre as both a staff nurse and a nursing coordinator.
Her research focuses on the examination of ethical issues in home and community care. She has also written widely in the field of nursing ethics. She currently is the principal investigator of a study funded by the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council entitled, "Home Care Ethics: Indentification & Analysis of Issues" and a study funded by The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation entitled, "Ethical Dimensions of Home Care Policies for Children and Youth". In addition, she is a member of the Health Sciences I Ethics Review Committee at the University of Toronto and a member of the Research Ethics Board at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
