Dr. Pier Bryden is a staff psychiatrist in the Department of Psychiatry at the Hospital for Sick Children, and an assistant professor at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Bryden completed an honours BA in history at U of T and a M.Phil in politics at Oxford University.  After obtaining her medical degree at McMaster University, she returned to the University of Toronto for residency training in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry.  She completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry and women’s mental health following residency.  Currently her areas of clinical specialty are adolescent psychiatry and eating disorders.  

 

Dr. Bryden completed the Education Scholar Program in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2006 and is currently a principal investigator on a research project looking at how professionalism is taught and evaluated by medical faculty.  Her other main area of scholarly interest is the application of the mental health act and consent and capacity legislation in the treatment of adolescents with psychiatric disorders.

 

As an educator, Dr. Bryden is particularly interested in the use of the arts and humanities as a tool for educating medical professionals, patients and the general public on aspects of medicine and mental health.
