Jonathan is the Ethicist at North York General Hospital, where he has worked since 2005. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He received his PhD in Philosophy from McMaster University in 2003, with a focus in Bioethics. Following completion of his PhD he was accepted into the Clinical Ethics Fellowship program at the JCB, where he completed both a Fellowship and Senior Fellowship in Clinical Ethics. During that time he had the privilege of working with more than ten JCB Ethicists in eight different healthcare organizations/institutions in the Greater Toronto Area.

Jonathan’s interests of late have focused on various dimensions of organizational ethics, on both particular issues (e.g., priority setting, moral distress) and the higher-level integration of ethics into health care organizational strategy. Recent research has been in the areas of moral distress and the ethics of hospital budgeting.
